Artwork  2011

Providence Elementary School - Fall 2011

The hallway leading to the cafeteria

displays accomplishments and awards to students under the marquee

The Tradition Begins ...

This scroll and pen is located at the  hallway to the cafeteria so that everyone can view it. It lists the students that

Exceeded the Fifth Grade Writing Standards.

To complete the transom in front of the Library, a small tiger cub plays with a book in the grass while looking into the library.

The Entrance to the school now has a dramatic statement to match their custom floor design with the school's logo.

The mural is titled- If it is to be, it is up to me" and focuses on achievements and a knowledge base for success and a goal of  secondary education using various icons from academics and honors.

Stitching Strings and Pretty Things

You can find her items at

Toodles Children's Boutique

Sharpsburg, Georgia

Toodles Children's Boutique- Sharpsburg, Georgia

A specialty children's shop offering baby shower items to monogramming on various children's items.   Toodles is located in Old Town Sharpsburg, Georgia. The building that the shop resides in used to be a general store with shelves from floor to ceiling. The shelves are gone but the rolling ladders to reach merchandise remain. It very cool to see places like this still exist. For this shop a number of items were painted- most of the signage for the shop as well a mural for the dedicated nursery area near the back on the right. The subject of the mural is peter rabbit meets the velveteen rabbit.

Johnson's - Marietta, Georgia

Celebrating the beginning of her high school years, their daughter starts the new school year with a design I called a scrapbook chaos. The new bedspread has a multitude of colors from brown to pink and orange and lime green and teal. It has a bit of a "bollywood" feel so we used the colors and added some favorite subject matter along with scrolls and some personalized positive teenage thoughts and phrases to bring a truly original concept for a young teenager.

Beside the bathroom door, is a collection of scrollwork while in the reading alcove, a block design lends to the colors of the room. and one simple mention of her name is all the detail the space needs.

Cabinet Glazing

Some finishing touches on cabinetry makes this basement kitchen complete.

Airbrush

PinUp Girls and Machines

This is a combined original for my son on permanent return from Italy and after his tour in Afghanistan.

As a airborne Infantry man the symbols for his unit - 173rd Sky Soldiers ( 2nd -503rd Helldivers) and Infantry patch adorne the top of the gas tank while a collection of gears with the manufacturer name REPO ( he has a tattoo symbolizing that he is a machine with gears under his skin and his nickname is REPO) is displayed along with a pinup girl and a symbol of his unit. One side has parachutes - the other a flag for the helldiver team.

New Again Resurfacing- Cast iron Tub Decoration

-Refinishes any size cast iron tubs , countertops and more.  Together we completed this tub for his son, who is a fan of the San Jose Sharks Hockey Team. This design is located on both sides of the tub and finished in automotive paints and clears for durability.  The picture doesn't do it justice.

John and Sandra Helton - Bent Tree, Georgia

According to John's wishes, the Helton's finished off an extra room in their basement like a true theater with sliding curtains, cozy recliners, and a big screen and projector with an additional art deco feel.  Using the airbrush really gave the sense of realism to the marquee sign behind the seats and the spotlights on both sides of the risers.

The Hogwild Band - Carrollton, Georgia

Drum cover for the band is replicated from the shop which bears the owners logo both guitarist and motorcycle enthusiast and mechanic.

The colors of the emblem go great with the belached wood of the drumset.

Holiday Commisssions

"Easy"

Equine Portrait, Acrylic on Textured Canvas,

Gallery Wrap, 20 x 20

Dr Terie Philips, of Providence Elementary School grew up in Temple and her grandfather was one of the town's residents in the early 1900's. He was a sharecropper and was photographed with this horse.  That photographed was replicated in graphite pencil rendering; 11" x 17"  .

Matching Portraits of her mother and father are below. These were taken from poor quality, antique photographs.

"Cooper and Easton"

Pastel on Paper , 16 x 18

Two grandbabies are forever remembered at this age as a gift for Christmas.

The Johnson's - Marietta, Georgia

A new theater room was created in the basement of the Johnson home. While the walls and ceiling were paneled with a beautiful mahogany finish and judges paneling, the back wall of the theater was reserved for a classical french country landscape to resemble an old world painting. This was done to keep in fashion with the style of the homes decor and architecture. The landscape created an open atmosphere and a warm glow on the foreground of the landscape. The artwork was finished with a an antique-ing of sienna brown wash.

Providence Elementary Library

This library of PES was like a blank canvas for some inspirational patriotic themes for artwork. On the wall looking out to the front of the school, the nation's historical landmarks are depicted while on the opposite wall near the office, Georgia's historical figures are framed with a corresponding term to describe them. All of these figures are studied by the children while at PES.

Two other walls above the fiction and storytime areas were included

Artwork 2010

(updated October 2010)

As an artist, change is everything and keeping up with change is important.

Along with murals, I have begun using my airbrush to enhance my paintings as well as starting to paint on solid surfaces such as helmets ( all kinds), automotive surfaces, and more. Below are a few examples of some of the few works I have been able to complete. I use automotive paints and clear coats for lasting durability and wear. I will be doing these works under the title of RSCustoms.

The Harringtons'- Canton, Georgia

The family welcomed their fourth child this summer and celebrated his homecoming with all the children.  Just a few touches gave the entire room personality.

Henry's Room

Charlie's Room

The Tuggle's - Stockbridge, Georgia

New house, new rooms !

I painted in the Tuggle's previous home in two rooms and now all three children have their rooms brought to life through color and character.

Lori Davis- Loganville, Georgia

Using some recycled windows, a landscape using reds and greens to bring out the colors of the room was painted on the glass of the window leaving the frame's bright creme color. This artwork hangs above the sofa in the living room.

Providence Elementary School- Temple, Georgia

This new elementary school actually has a long history in the community. Although the original school was transformed many times over the years from location, name, and circumstances affected by desegregation, the Providence School was one of first four black schools in West Georgia. Built in 1891 by local black farmers by candlelight after the long farming day, it was originally located in the first floor of the Mason Hall on Rome Street in Temple, Georgia.  The building and name were both changed over the years to become Temple Elementary School, but was reborn as Providence Elementary School in 2010 making it the second elementary school for Temple Middle and High School, of the Carroll County Schools System.

The Mascot for the Elementary School  is a group of Tigers and these were depicted on transoms in front of the library as well as on a corner wall to greet parents and students as the enter the main building. A wall was dedicated to sponsors and the history of the school was displayed through a " museum" mural in the cafeteria focusing on important aspects of the community and the history of the school and leaders.

Temple High School- Temple, Georgia

The football players, band members and students now have a "Tiger Walk" to motivate them before football games.

The football players come directly from their locker rooms to the field where students and band await their arrival on the walk!

Villa Rica Elementary

Villa Rica, Georgia   - Carroll County Schools

Charles Johnson, long time principal with the Carroll County School System, began his new year at Villa Rica Elementary by transforming this common area into outdoor paradise and bringing life to the cafeteria with mama and wildcat cubs.

The atrium room before that measures 20' x 30' was stark white except for a corner gazebo where children could gather or wait for parent pick up or bus pick up..

After, the area is now full of overhanging trees covered in realistic foliage of green with closed in jungle feel or open savannah around the gazebo.   All areas were painted with alkyd based enamels for maximum durability and shine.

Before After

The lunchroom came alive with the addition of a mother watching over her wildcat cubs as they play on the rocks on the opposite wall. In the center  between the doors is a small pond that includes the mascots of all the kindergarten classes. That way, as years go by, they can be reminded of their history and  connection to the school when they visit again.

The Morgan's - Covington, Georgia

The children's rooms were enhanced with artwork along with other renovations and new furniture. In the daughter's room, the new bedding dictated the design on the wall as well as the "name" addition over her door. The son loves planes and the Blue Angels, so artwork of various Blue Angels aircraft were painted over the bed.

The Matthews' - Villa Rica, Georgia

A number of areas were enhanced in this home including a subtle golden faux ragging in the guest powder room, a modeled gold ceiling tray, and a polyurethane striping in the master bathroom with a cherry tree embellishment next to the closet.

The Repetto's - Conyers, Georgia

When their son was newborn, Pooh was the theme of the room with the tree in the corner over the crib. But to redesign the room for teenage years, the tree was transformed and a lake with trees in the background along with flying fish, a boating dock, an underwater view near the tree and fishermen in the distance was all it took to transform this room from a storybook to lifesize fun.

 The Burdette's- Duluth, Georgia

Two rooms at this home were transformed through artwork.

The first is the daughter's room. Although no fabric was chosen when painting started, the colors were decided upon. They would be pink and orange, white with a lime green accent. Later an interior designer match the patterns and colors to fabric to make this room a showplace !

The second location was the newly designed family room above the garage. New leather and cream colored furniture along with the family game tables made this room a real gathering place. To accent the colors of the room, bricks were painted on three walls.

Madras Middle School

Newnan, Georgia   - Coweta County Schools

The Eagles at Madras Middle School have a whole new look around their school thanks to their PTSO.

A number of areas were painted for the new school year including a new logo "EaglePride"  with a new eagle head and talons grasping the words for each grade  hallways.

The Hallway entry to gym also houses the music and the choral departments. The entire hall way was striped with school colors and embellished with icons of each department.

Each quarter student and teachers are recognized for the accomplishments with their photo on the Wall of Fame boards in the main hallway. The existing eagle was replaced with a more majestic one.

The gym had an existing mural of an eagle in flight. The initials MMS were added to this mural and a new mural with a more collegiate look was added to the opposite side of the gym. This mural expands 20 plus feet and up to 15 feet in height.

Outside the cafeteria is a realistic and very majestic eagle's head portrait. Striking eyes make this eagle one to be noticed.

More photos to come...

With left over wood and a few scraps, I branded our little farm with a logo. Since we are a law enforcement family and Roy Rogers and the lone ranger are popular figures from our childhood, our horses are named for various terms of firepower. Hence the names- Trigger, Remington Girl, and Browning.

MILLEDGEVILLE — Riding and caring for a horse may seem like fun, but one organization is using 12 trotters to teach children and teens about the values of life, trust, family and faith while forming and building relationships with one another through a two-week summer camp. HorseDreams Youth Ranch is a non-denominational faith-based organization that provides at-risk youth with hands-on experiences interacting with and caring for horses in a nurturing environment, starting from the ground and building up to the saddle.

Glazing Cabinetry
The bottom cabinets with hardware

This picture shows the difference with only the glazing on the bottom half of the cabinets

Door Before Glazing Door After Glazing
These cabinets had been painted white and to make the kitchen a warmer atmosphere, a brown glaze to match the wall coloring wall used. The appearance of the cabinets now have a look that suits the decor of the room. The architecture of the doors and cabinetry dictates the areas to be glazed. On this jobsite, the corners, and edges were glazed with deep warm brown tone while the entire doors were lightly colored to warm the cold white color.

The wall to the left of the room was fauxed with blocks and a cute mural of cheerleaders with the little girl as the flyer in the stunt and the opposite wall brought the colors from the left wall in a vertically striped pattern. The chant the team shouts at competitions was written on the front and back walls to bring the whole room together.
